Second Travelling Head Man -
William Brown
AYR’S BILLY Brown has been in
racing for 30 years and started with Charlie Williams for whom he had two
spells either side of working for Albert Davison in Caterham. Arriving at
Newmarket in the late 1970s, he was employed by Luca Cumani and Mick Ryan
before Henry Cecil took him on in 1990. He has remained at Warren Place
since then apart from a three-month stint working in America for Linda Sims,
with whom he was shown how they break in yearlings on the other side of the
Atlantic. Like others in the yard he won‘t forget Light Shift, but she will
always be extra special for Billy as he did her the past two seasons. While
the travelling takes up much of his time through the season, Billy is
invaluable in the early winter when he plays a key part in breaking in the
yearlings. He is a dab hand at Tenpin Bowling.
