Head Man -
William Aldridge
BILLY ALDRIDGE
hails from Blackburn but cut his teeth in racing in the Yorkshire training
centre of Middleham. He worked for several trainers ‘up north‘, including
Edward Gifford to whom he was initially apprenticed. Billy had several
public rides and finished placed on several occasions, including a runner-up
effort on a horse owned by legendary England fast bowler Freddie Trueman. He
ventured to Newmarket in 1972 and within a year was working for his current
employer, who was then based at Marriott Stables on the Hamilton Road. It
has been an enduring and rewarding working relationship with Billy listing
his association with the fine race mare Roussalka as the highlight of his
lengthy association with the Cecil string. A Manchester United fan, he is a
keen golfer, participating in several of the Stable Lads competitions.
